Maternity in France is 100% covered

During my first prenatal check up, the doctor confirmed my pregnancy first, and then he gave us a form to fill up, it was sent to Caisse Primaire d’Assurance Maladie (CPAM) and Caisse d'Allocations Familiales (CAF). After signing it we received information about ultrasounds and prenatal checkups that I had to go through during my pregnancy. We also received booklets about pregnancy and list of midwifes in our town. I received my Carte Vitale few months later.

In France it's important to declare your pregnancy, because if you don’t you won't get covered and you won't get benefits. I was 15 weeks pregnant when I arrived here; I was a bit late to declare my pregnancy, I should have declared when I was 14 weeks pregnant but my good husband took take of everything.

Our Social Security covered these:
1st Trimester: prenatal check up and 1st ultrasound

2nd Trimester: 2nd prenatal exam and my husband’s health exam
                     : 3rd prenatal exam and 2nd ultrasound
                     : 4th prenatal exam

3rd Trimester: 5th prenatal exam and midwife classes for preparing for birth (7 sessions with midwife were covered but I think I only had 4)
                     : 6th prenatal exam and 4th ultrasound
                     : 7th prenatal exam

7 days old of our baby: 1st doctor visit

1st month of our baby: 2nd doctor visit

2nd month of our baby: 3rd doctor visit

When I was 7 months pregnant, we received an allowance from the CAF for preparing the needs of our baby. And then when our baby was born, we have been receiving monthly allowance but it will be only up to 3 years.

I was right to decide to give birth in France than in Philippines because of these, since it's only my husband who has a work. Being covered and having an allowance help us a lot with our finances.
